The 21st Century is demanding on time, attention and our wallets.
And yet...
we need wisdom more than ever. Too many of us are looking outside for inspiration, not realising that the best guru of all - literally the Kingdom of God - is within us. We know the truth, the whole truth and ... the bit of the truth we're ready to accept. At Divine Flourishing, we say everyone should have dedicated listening for at least an hour every month; someone to whom they can be accountable, someone who will hold their whole story confidentially and professionally. For some people, that will be a counsellor. For others, a coach. A spiritual director holds a unique lens, seeking individual flourishing and health beyond the "everydayness" of life.
One to one
Here's a little taste of what might happen at the beginning a one-to-one session, although it has to be said that each time is entirely unique and complete. I've written this one for you.
Set aside a quiet space and uninterrupted time. Before you enter it, stand for a short time and simply become aware of yourself standing before the Creator, your idea of Creator who loves and cares for you; is for you, but who will never interfere uninvited. Consider making an invitation as you move to sit. Perhaps you would like to light a candle as a sign of divine presence. You may wish to close your eyes to reduce visual distraction. Bring to mind five things for which you are grateful. Invite them. Let them come. Then become aware of the sounds around you. Focus on four. Consider where you are sitting and notice three ways that you connect to the ground, the chair or support. What can you smell? One thing. What can you taste? Can you find one thing? Place your palms together and then place them over your heart. Ask the Creator to share one thing with you about a desire planted in you for just this time. Don't rush. Listen and respond if you wish to do so. Ask for whatever you need.
